Announcing the Woodward West and Live Like Sam Sumer Camp Merit Scholarship, which covers the cost of one week of camp at Woodward West (a $1200 – $1500 value).

Partnership to Provide Merit Scholarship for Week of Summer Camp at Woodward West

PARK CITY, Utah, May, May 14, 2019 – Live Like Sam, a nonprofit organization in honor of late Sam Jackenthal, has partnered with Woodward West, an action sports camp and part of Woodward, to help make one young athlete’s dreams a reality.

The Woodward West and Live Like Sam Summer Camp Merit Scholarship covers the cost of one week of camp at Woodward West, a $1200 – $1500 value.  

“We want to ensure that this scholarship goes to someone who embraces Live Like Sam’s core CARE principles of community, athletics, responsibility and education, and who will be truly grateful for the opportunity to spend a week progressing – both as an athlete and as a person – during his or her time at Woodward West,” says Ron Jackenthal, founder of Live Like Sam. 

Based in Park City, Utah, Live Like Sam was established in 2017 in memory of the late Park City native Sam Jackenthal, who was a young man of strong character and values and who was also a world-class, up and coming athlete. At just 15 years old, Sam won the overall combined title at the U.S. Junior Freestyle Championship and was ranked as one of the top 20 under-18 freestyle skiers in the world. 

Sam was also a top-ranked international inline skater, which he learned from attending camp at Woodward West. Sam spent many weeks as a camper at Woodward West over six consecutive years. “Woodward was Sam’s hands-down favorite place in the world,” adds Jackenthal. “Sam used to say, ‘There are only two things in life we can control, our attitude and our activity,’ and Woodward taught Sam how to elevate both.” Sam passed away when he was 16 years old in 2015 from injuries suffered in a skiing training accident in Australia.  

Woodward is an experiential action sports company and its mission is to empower and inspire the next generation of action sports through intuitive programming and innovative environments. One way to experience Woodward is through summer camp. Woodward West offers 13 different summer camp programs including skateboarding, gymnastics, BMX, mountain bike, parkour, ninja, scooter, cheer, dance, acro tumbling, multi-sports camp and video production and digital photography. The scholarship winner will have their pick of programs and Camp dates. 

Those interested in applying for the Live Like Sam Merit Scholarship to Woodward West are asked to write two essays and are provide documentation of 10 hours of community service performed in his or her local community. 

Applications must be submitted by Friday, May 31 at 5:00 pm MST to info@livelikesam.org.

• Week 4 (June 23 – June 29, 2019)
• Week 5 (June 30 – July 06, 2019)
• Week 9 (July 28 – August 3, 2019)
• Week 10 (Aug 4 – August 10, 2019)
• Week 11 (Aug 11 – August 17, 2019)
